About Lectures
The lecture series entitled 'Israel: Historical, Political and Social Aspects' is convened by Peter Oppenheimer of Christ Church. Lectures will take place during Michaelmas, Hilary and Trinity Terms, each lecture being followed by a drinks reception. The lectures will be given by leading authorities and, whilst academic in nature, are also aimed at a more general public.
In the past the series has drawn large audiences including both students and senior members of the University. We therefore recommend that you arrive five minutes before the start of the lecture.
Past speakers include Prof Itamar Rabinovich (former Israel Ambassador to the United States and former Director of the Dayan Center), Prof Sir Martin Gilbert (Official Biographer of Sir Winston Churchill), General The Lord Guthrie of Craigiebank (Former Chief of the Defense Staff of the British Armed Forces), Prof Sir Adam Roberts (Montague Burton Professor of International Relations, Oxford University), Prof Colin Shindler (Professor in Israeli and Modern Jewish Studies, SOAS London University) and many others.
Lecture Format
The lectures normally begin at 8 pm and last 45-60 mins plus Q/A of up to 30 mins. This is followed by a drinks reception, where you can discuss your views directly with the speaker.
